"How to Disable Remote Monitoring"

27 March 2011

Summary: a Digital Security Controls (DSC) Power632 (circuit board PC1555MX) security system does not have to be remotely monitored but you can not simply unplug the phone line from the PC1555MX circuit board as this will simply generate a keypad "Trouble" light and you will not be able to arm you system. To disable remote monitoring you must change PC1555MX programming. To change PC1555MX programming you must know the current "Installer Code"

Background:

A Digital Security Controls (DSC) Power632, circuit board PC1555MX, security system is meant to be remotely monitored by a security company for a monthly fee.

The Power632 does not have to be remotely monitored and the system can still provide security protection via the installed bell (siren).

Unfortunately, disabling the Power632 from calling a monitoring company at a system "event" is not as simple as unplugging the telephone connection inside the Power632 metal cabinet as this will be sensed by the system as being a problem with the phone line and generate a "Trouble" light on system keypads.

When the "Trouble" light is "on", you can not arm your system.

To disable remote monitoring, you must know the current "Installer Code".

The default "Installer Code" is 5555.

When the system was installed, the installer could have changed the "Installer Code"

Disabling the system from making a phone call:

To disable the Power632, circuit board PC1555MX from making phone calls:

At a keypad enter the following sequence

* 8 "Current Installer Code"   (Default "Installer Code" = 5555)

If the keypad lights the "Armed" light emitting diode (LED) and a liquid crystal display (LCD) shows the word "Program" then the "Installer Code" you know is valid.

If the keypad does not light the "Armed" LED and shows "Program" on a LCD, the "Installer Code" you know is invalid. See below.

Now enter

991 ##

What you have just done is unlock the PC1555MX board so programming changes can be made.

Now enter

* 8 "Current Installer Code" 015

In a normal installation where the PC1555MX monitors the status of the phone line, the number 7 will be displayed on a LCD or the 7th LED will be lit on a LED display.

Press the number 7 on your keypad and the number 7 will disappear from the display or the 7th LED will no longer be lit.

Press ## to exit programming.

What you have just done is disable the PC1555MX from monitoring the status of the phone line and you can now physically disconnect the phone line from the PC1555MX inside the Power632 cabinet.

Now at a keypad enter the following sequence

* 8 5555 380

Once again, a LCD keypad will display numbers or a LED keypad will light LED's corresponding to numbers. A system set up for communicating to a remote monitoring station should look something like the following:

Now press the 1 key on the keypad and the number 1 should disappear from the LCD display or the 1 LED should not longer be lit.

Press  ##

What you have just done is to disable the phone dialer on the PC1555MX circuit board.

Disabling the PC1555MX board checking of phone line status and the autodialer is all the programming changes that have to be made to the PC1555MX for it to be used without remote monitoring.

Your system should now arm and disarm normally and not show a trouble light.

Invalid "Installer Code"

If when you try to get the PC1555MX into the installer programming mode, it will not go, then the "Installer Code" you know is invalid and your options are:

- Contact the previous homeowner and try to get the "current Installer Code."

- Contact the security system company that installed your system and determine if they have the "current Installer Code" in their files.

- If you learn a new "Installer Code" repeat above to see if it works. (If the "Installer Code" you learn does work, write it down and keep in a safe place).

- If no matter what "Installer Code" you try, the PC1555MX circuit board will not go into the programming mode, you will either have to do-it-yourself (DIY) replace the PC1555MX circuit board or pay a security system company to replace the PC1555MX for you.
