 "How to Add, Edit or Delete Arm-Disarm Access Codes"

9 March 2010

Summary: access codes are what you use to arm, disarm your home security system. You need to know the current "Master code" to add, edit or delete access codes. The default "Master Code" is 1234 but it could have been changed by the installer or the previous homeowner. If the default "Master Code" of 1234 does not work and you do not know of any other "Master Code", you will not be able to add, edit or delete access codes easily.

Background:

The Digital Security Control (DSC) Power632 security system (system board PC1555MX) has non-volatile memory (does not loose contents when power removed), which holds various security system definitions to include system arm-disarm access code(s).

Arm-disarm codes are those you enter into a keypad to turn on (arm) or turn off (disarm) your security system.

There are two critical stored codes per Power632-PC1555MX: "Installer Code" and "Master Code".

The "Master Code" is required for any add, edit or delete of an access code.

The factory default "Master Code" is 1234.

The "Installer Code" is required for PC1555MX programming.

The factory default "Installer Code" is 5555.

Both the "Master Code" and "Installer Code" can be changed and could have been changed by the previous homeowner or by the system installer.

You must know the current "Master Code" to add, edit or delete access codes.

How to add or edit an access code (not Master Code):

At a system keypad enter the following sequence:

* 5 "current 4-digit Master Code"

The default "Master Code" is 1234 and try this if you do not know of another "Master Code".

If the entered 4-digit "Master Code" is valid, the DSC liquid crystal display (LCD) will show the "Armed" light emitting diode (LED) lit and "Program". What exactly will be displayed on a DSC keypad depends on the type of DSC keypad installed.

As the system can hold 32 unique access codes, enter a 2-digital code number from 01 - 32

01

Now enter a "new 4-digital access code" and then press ##

So the entire sequence is * 5 "4-digit current Master Code" 01 "new 4-digit access code" ##

Now test your code to see if it arms and disarms your system.

To be clear, this procedure defines user access codes and does nothing to the "Master Code"

Note that your system may not arm if there is a zone open or there is other "Trouble" with you system.

More than one access code:

Why, when, would you ever need more than one access code? Supposed you had house guests for a week or so. You could define an access code for their use while they are staying with you and then delete it once they are gone.

As defined above, you can define up to 32 unique access codes.

To define a second access code, you follow the procedure defined above except instead of "Code 01" you would enter 02.

So, to add or define a second access code:  * 5 "current 4-digit Master Code" 02 "new-4 digit access code" ##

To define a third access code: * 5 "current 4-digit Master Code" 03 "new 4-digit access code" ##

To be clear, this procedure defines user access codes and does nothing to the "Master Code"

How to delete an access code (Not Master Code):

Enter 5 "current 4-digit Master Code" "code number 01 to 32" ##

So to delete the second access code: * 5 "Current 4-digit Master Code" 02 * ##

Record access codes.

If you are successful in adding or editing access codes, make sure you record them and keep them in a safe place.

"Master Code" does not work:

If when you try to add or edit an access code, the keypad never goes into the "Program" mode, then the 4-digit "Master Code" (either default of 1234 or the code you think you know and have tried) is invalid."

If you think you know the current "Installer Code", you can try to set the "Master Code" by using the "Installer Code."

* 8 "Current Installer Code" 991 ## (Default "Installer Code" = 5555. This will attempt to unlock the PC1555MX if locked)

* 8 "Current Installer Code" 015

If the LCD "Armed" LED lits and displays "Program" then the "Installer Code" you know is valid. If the display will not go into "Program" mode, then you do not know a valid "Installer Code."

If the "6" is showing on LCD or the "6th" LED is lit, then the PC1555MX has the "Master Code" locked and you must unlock it by pressing the "6" key and then # #

If 6 is not showing or the 6th LED is not lit, press ##

Now:

* 8 "Current Master Code" 007 "New 4-digit Master Code" ## (Will accept 4 "0's or 4 "9's)

Invalid "Installer Code":

If the "Installer Code" you know will not put the PC1555MX into the "Program" mode, then the "Installer Code" is invalid and your options include:

- Contact the previous home owner to see if he remembers the "Installer Code" used.

- Contact the security company that installed your system and see if they have the "Installer Code" in their records.

- Do-it-yourself (DIY) replace the PC1555MX circuit board (available on eBay and from various Internet websites) or pay a security system company to replace the PC1555MX board for you.
