"Marvin Wood Double Hung Windows - Screen Pins"

Summary: get new metal pins from Marvin.

Broken Marvin Screen Pin

Background:

Marvin low-e, Argon gas filled, double hung wood windows installed in 1992.

Do not remove window screen frame often from window frame but seems like one or 2 removals and caps breaks or pin do.

In process of paining window frames and just too many broken caps or pins to ignore.

Searched Marvin Windows website for diagrams that would give me the part number of the screen pin assembly.

Found part number 11851054, which says for windows 2008 and on.

Contacted Marvin support and verified part number was correct for my window screens.

Ordered replacements for all my window screens and 5 extra (might break 1 or more in installation).

New Screen Pin Assembly:

New Marvin Screen Pin

Although not clear in image above, pin is now metal, while black cap is no longer split on sides to help it slip onto pin.

Also, there is a spring on the pin.

Installing:

To install you must have a pair of wide jaw pliers.

Remove old pin which is done by removing cap and then pushing pin through frame.

Go slow and if you do it right, you can reuse the spring.

Now take a new metal pin and slip spring over it and from the outside of the frame push the pin and spring into the frame aligning pin with hole on inside for window screen frame.

Place black plastic cap on end of pin.

Using wide jaw pliers with one end on the end of metal pin and other on plastic black cap, slowly, carefully squeeze pliers jaws together.

Careful as if you squeeze to hard and heads of jaws are not exactly on head of pin or cap, you can bend pin.

Once cap begins to go onto pin, continue to squeeze jaws until pin is visible at end of plastic cap.

Now, the pin might be stuck in the frame, gently tap it or pull on cap until pin and spring move freely.
