"BMW Z3 - O2 Sensors - Get the Right Ones"

Summary: make sure you get the O2 sensors for you Z3's vehicle identification number (VIN). Apparently different type O2 sensors have been used now and again on the Z3 and the wrong type will throw a check engine light (CEL)

1997 Z3 failing California emissions inspection.
O2 sensors replaced.
CEL "on" and after reset, comes on immediately.
O2 Sensors - Get the Right Ones
From April 1997 to Sept 1998 Z3's were outfitted with titania sensors, not the typical zirconium sensors. Titania sensors are identified by having yellow and red wires along with the black and white, not the two white, black and grey wires of zirconium sensors. They don't look any different, just have different wires. And the two types are not interchangeable.
SO, always use your Z3's vehicle identification number (VIN) to order parts and if you can not order third party via the VIN, get from dealer.
