Upgrading to the January 2011 version from any old version.

Background:

Investment Cost Basis Master (ICBM) has been around, either sold or offered as freeware on the Internet. for at least 7 years.

Any version prior to the Jan 2011 version, default installed to the C:\PORT folder and the application was C:\PORT\PORT.EXE.

If you have an installed version of ICBM, start the application and then under the SYSTEM menu, check "ABOUT" and determine where your version of ICBM is installed. You could have changed from the default PORT folder when you installed it.

As long as you did not install an old version in C:\ICBM and there is little chance of that.....

To upgrade your old version to the 2011 version:

- Install the January 2011 version. Install the January 2011 version to the default C:\ICBM folder.

- Once ICBM is installed in the C:\ICBM folder, using Windows Explorer, go to the C:\PORT folder or the folder you installed the old PORT.EXE in and copy the following files:

        - Acquire.dbf

        - Acquire.fpt

        - Config.dbf

        - Dates.dbf

        - Dispose.dbf

        - History.dbf

        - History.fpt

        - History2.dbf

        - Historry2.fpt

        - Invest.dbf

        - Invest.fpt

        - Port.dbf

        - Taxrates.dbf

        - Worth.dbf

- Then paste all your old data to the C:\ICBM folder. When Explorer wants to know if you wish to overwrite existing files, answer "yes" to all.

- While you have all your data copied, copy it to a CD or to another folder on your computer and mark it as "PORT data backup".

- Now when you click on Windows START and move up to PROGRAMS, over to MONEY, you should see 2 versions of INVESTMENT COST BASIS MASTER. The new, January 2011, version will say "Investment Cost Basis Master (ICBM)".

- Click on the version that includes "ICBM" and verify your data is in the January 2011 version.

- Using your mouse, right click on the "Investment Cost Basis Master" THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE (ICBM) and then delete it. This will delete the shortcut to your old version but does not delete you C:\PORT folder stored data.

- After you have used the new, January 2011 version, you can go to C:\PORT and delete the old version.

Upgrade, what to expect:

The short answer is that it depends on how old your installed version is. Most upgrades over the years have been to fix reported bugs but in this version there is no diskette backup and restore function. It is just too easy to make a CD backup of all your stored data for the system to have a special and complex backup function.
