Windows XP Professional and Chkdsk

So Windows XP comes up and will not run, can’t get to desktop. It asks if you want to start the repair console and you respond “yes”. XP then asks for the administrator’s password and you never assigned one or you try the ones you thought you assigned and Windows keeps rejecting the entered password and finally dumps you to a DOS prompt. You try the whole process of reboot, repair console and password entry again but still no go. What do you do then?

At he DOS prompt, type in CHKDSK, which is an old DOS command to check the disk. I think actually the command is CDKDSK/F which means fix all errors found and strike the enter key.

In my case once CHKDSK ran, I rebooted and Windows XP came up normally.

Don’t know, might work for you and sure would like to figure out what the repair console is expecting for an administrator’s password.
