"Clothes Washer Hose
Replacement"
10 September 2005
They are easy to overlook. When you moved into your house, the clothes washer was there and it has worked every since, no problem, no concern or when you bought your clothes washer, you installed the washer and water hoses and have just forgotten them.
Connecting your clothes washer to the hot and cold supply lines are 2, probably rubber, hoses and believe it or not, have a finite life span, like everything else. Problem is that there is no good way to just look at the hoses to determine if they are approaching the end of their life span. Thus, do yourself a favor and replace your clothes washer supply line hoses every 5 years and attach a tag to them with the date they were replaced.
What’s to worry? If one of the rubber supply line hoses burst while you are home, you will probably eventually hear the rushing of the water, but if you are not home, your basement or room holding your washer can become flooded.
Finally, if you plan on being away from your home for any extended period of time, it is not a bad idea to shut off the valves for the hot and cold clothes washer supply lines.
